Georgia Carve-out in flux

Suppressor status, statute citation, and carry law — statute-verified October 14, 2026.

Suppressor law

Carve-out in flux

Legal, but the state exception is written for federally registered owners. Since the ATF's October 9, 2026 policy, new purchases cannot register — the statute is untested for them.

StatuteOCGA 16-11-122(a), 16-11-123(a), 16-11-124(4)
NotesSB 499 (2025-26) to repeal the possession ban DIED 4/2/2026 (BillTrack50: Introduced 02/11/2026, Dead 04/02/2026; legis.ga.gov/legislation/73161), so the ban stands. Wrinkle: ATF's Oct 9 2026 guidance ended NFA registration for covered suppressors, so devices newly acquired without registration arguably fall outside the 16-11-124(4) exemption until Georgia amends - unresolved gap.
HuntingRestricted - 27-3-4(a)(8): silencer use for hunting prohibited except on a person's own private property, permitted private property with owner permission, or designated public areas.

Federal context: suppressor tax $0 since Jan 1, 2026 (OBBBA); ATF stopped enforcing NFA approval/registration Oct 9, 2026. State law is unchanged and independently controls.
